Quote from steve30x :OMG theres another member of the developers. If not then you cannot predict what will be implemented in the future. Let the decisions of what is added to LFS to the devs.

We all have to let them do what they think is good. But I think there are too many people who want all the same stuff which is IMO killing the game and/or wasted time. How many times did you read something about RL cars, moddability, RL tracks and stuff? And still we have no ricer, no Nos, no cars built by the communityno Nos, no bodykits, no Nos. So why the hell do some people start new threats about all this stuff? They do not search for anything, they just start the whole thing new, every day. That's annoying.

I also didn't say that every proposal is crap, many of them would be really interesting features once they were programmed !! I just can't see those standard stupid "I WANT XXXXX" -topics, that's all.

this is another stupid and senseless reply. Its only purpose is to make the thread longer. This reply doesn't even blame someone of anything.

Hey there,

I think it's about time to tell you my opinion about what so many people want to have in lfs.
Maybe this is a thread especially for the "new lfs enthusiast" who might have played nfs or other games and wants to have an acura or integra or some other fancy things.

First of all; did you ever try to read a thread about what other people want? Every single day there are posts about

new cars (mostly ricers, some open wheelers and last but not least lawnmowers, bmx bikes and others)

new tracks (Nordschleife, LeMans, Isle of Man...)

Mods (wings, NOS, bodykits homebuilt car models, sounds etc etc)

If you want to post something like this, then be sure that nothing of these will be implemented in lfs just because you (or you and 50 others) want it.

There will be no money spent for licenses on ricers or tracks, it will stay a racing game and not a style contest. Therefor you may alter the suspensions but you will never have the chance to "upgrade to lvl 4 NOS" or stuff like this. It would make races boring.
So pleeeeeeeeeeeeez first read other posts and don't be the 1821341st who wants to have his NOS impreza EVO MXVCIII in the game!

April, July, nevermind. When it's ready I would like to have the stuff everybody (serious people) wants:

proper tyre model (ATM it's very good, time to improve)
proper aerodynamics (those noses are a drag;-))
maybe some sound stuff
graphics are not as important
a temperature gauge would be a blast! Seems like we'll have to use our brains in the future, no more stupid 1-lap-hookers on the tracks!

Quote from filur :With the AI's your PC has to also do the driving of each car, whilst online it only has to figure out what's happening to the other cars, so there's theoretically a performance hit from racing AI's.

It IS in fact a big difference. Online I had min. 35 to 40 fps, offline full grid SO normal it drops to around 20 at the start.

if you see that the computer calculates heat and wear over 40 spots per wheel, contact patches, springs, dampers.......... it is in fact very cpu-unfriendly. When you drive offline the computer has to calculate ALL spots and springs on ALL cars. online you just get some little packages which include the information about what other cars are doing. thus you have network traffic but not as much cpu-usage.

maybe we'll meet online some day!

IMO the rewuirements depend on how you play, how much you play and last but not least how "sissy" you are.

I used to play duke nukem with my friends on an old 486-dx2-66 and it really rocked @5fps! The only disadvantage was the stupid headache after having played for 3 hours ;-)
Today I think 25fps is "my" absolute minimum, so I had to get my newer sys which contains a 3200+ (32 bit) and my radeon 9600pro. As you see I'm also not that rich.

Also I don't have any internet connection at home, so I have to play solo and with a full AI field framerate drops down massively, so a much slower cpu should be enough for driving online, but it would never do for single player racing.

I happened to develop some small parts for the R10, so I saw the concept a while ago. I never heard the sound of it but Audi already uses big silencers to match some future noise specs. So they can use the R10 later without having to modify it.

PS: If you want great sound, try visiting a youngtimer Rally event! The cars there make some nice chicken skin!

I once found out what the butterfly effect REALLY is:

Did you know that a cyclone can make a butterfly fall over even when it's 10 miles away?

Did you know that 3 bites from a horse can kill a hornet?

my wundervoll silent sys:

3200+ Barton running almost at light speed (2200MHz)
512Mb of RAM, almost as fast
80+40GB funny but loud HDs
2 (!!!) cupholders for me and my girl, one of them can write on cds very fast (12x)!
no floppy disk drive (I prefer the hard ones)
radeon 9600pro with a silent channel-like cooler
a soundblaster card to blast some sound
a beautiful rally gt pro wheel to twist and turn (it fights back!)
a 21-inch crt which I "borrowed" at work
some keys and a funny mouse without any cables installed
last but not least very few propellers in my biiig old server case. They keep all the stuff cool but quiet.

coming soon: an x800 or whatever.

hmm, act labs ... I think I would also prefer one of these, but aren't they very expensive? And if somebody wanted to sell one then why?

I just saw there is a gameport to usb adapter, and the wheel seems very sturdy and well fabricated. So if I trusted the one selling this wheel then I probably would take it.

I own the rgt pro, all I can say it works quite well. No Problems until now, pedals are fine (they don't have a dead zone, very accurate), Gear knob is kinda obsolete but I use it as handbrake/pit limiter. I got the wheel from alternate (german hardware store) for 99€ incl. pp and I#m really happy with it. squash ball mod will come soon.

just a short question:

how on earth can demo racers drive gtr cars? when I drive the demo cars on BL I can't get faster than 1:32 or something...

Quote from Rooble :Ill buy my licence when im good and ready ...

get serious man, buy the full alpha and learn from nice, fair folks! It really is amazing how fast you can get when someone fast teaches you.

BTW Thanks a lot to all the people who helped me getting faster... I will be back soon to have some races/beers with you!

I recently bought the new thrustmaster rally gt pro, didn't want to have the Problems the dfp has. Well, rotation about 270°, belt drive, ball bearings, rubber wheel AND 2 more axes. . I like it, it's more quiet than my saitek r4 but does not react as fast (curbs and fast bumps, but this is getting better everytime I play). The mechanics seem very durable (I like 120%ffb:-)) and you can put 2 more pedals to it for clutch and handbrake. Costs are €100 for the wheel and I believe 20 or 30 for a second set of pedals.

1st: do a headstand while playing and turn your monitor, everything should be reversed. Or take out the usb cable and put it in the other way round

well technically you download the skins just to SEE them (thus the skins_x folder). If every racer would permanently "stream" his skin into the game there would be only head to head races possible. Using a team or personal skin is not really illegal but I think it should be ;-) Some guy invests many hours of work to show off, and then some other guy takes this piece of art (well, mostly it is) and drives around with it or even alters it. IMO that's not very fair. So go to Master skinnerz, look at the stunning skins, e.g. in the skin contest. They're all public, that means you may USE them freely (does NOT mean that you are allowed to doodle around with them except for an individual number or so). You can also have your skin personalized by one of the skinnerz there, they are really nice folks!
hope I could help.

Test for me

Car: Mini special 1000
specs: 45hp, fwd, 630kg
actions: accelerate with spinning front wheels while steering.
brake with blocked wheels while steering
corner until understeering

lfs car: uf1
wheel: thrustmaster rally gt pro
actions: same as irl

I will try how these very similar cars behave and how my steering reacts.

The advantage is that the mini doesn't have any servo sissi assistances, neither in steering nor braking aids. It also lacks this thingy... how do you call it... steering dampener (??), so I really feel every pebble on the road.

a little story to laugh (cry) about...

yesterday a friend of mine visited me, we tried to play lfs, he sat in front of the screen while I kept pressing shift-c (booooooooriiiiiiiiing) but after 10 minutes of constant pressing nothing happened. After he was gone later I started the game again, pressed shift-c ONCE and it worked!

on one side: AAAAAAAAAAARGH!
on the other: haaahahahaaaaaa!

AAAAAAAAARGH! GIMME THAT CHAINSAAW!
No really, it WOULD be a more realistic kind of sim with injuries, but I think at some point we have to see that this whole sim thing is NOT reality.
IMO a more realistic damage model would be enough.

Maybe a simulated walk to the pit might be enough to bully the ones who can't drive :-)

btw: some F1-racers walked away after a crash that caused like 50g or more!

Flame flame!!!!

done so far.

No, really, I think this might be a major update but with updated physics maybe there'll be a chance of a better feedback.

[edit] funny sentence... hope this all makes sense [/edit]

Yep, open diff for all "small" cars would be my first wish too...

For now you just have to make the suspension a bit harder so the wheels stay where they belong. No spin at all.
